In real estate and in the call center business, location is important. NCO Group’s call center, located off Gallimore Dairy Road, draws employees from throughout the Triad. The inbound customer service call center works in shipping, tracking and damage notification exclusively for UPS in Greensboro, according to recruiting manager Thomas Lofton. NCO seeks candidates who have a customer service background. “If you’ve done face-to-face (customer service), you can definitely do customer service on the phone,” Lofton says.
Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED certificate. Training includes two weeks in the classroom, followed by a week at “Academy Bay” where trainees take phone calls from customers. The ultimate goal for employees, Lofton says, is to become a universal agent who can handle all three categories of customer service at the call center — shipping, tracking and damage notification. NCO offers competitive salaries as well as full health coverage, a 401(k) plan, life and disability insurance, and paid vacation.
Shifts vary depending on need, Lofton says. Employees can working morning, midday or evening shifts. All call center reps have Sundays off.
Lofton says NCO employees have a good rapport with one another and enjoy comfortable work stations with “an ergonomic design, so that makes it nice.” There is also an employee cafeteria on site.
The call center employs around 800 agents, plus an additional 200 other staff members. The company has already hired its final class of the year for the call center, but he anticipates another round of hiring again in February, and those interested in working for NCO may fill out an application anytime by visiting www.ncogroup.com.
